Je suis franco/allemand, et mes deux familles ont été marquées dans leur chair et leur esprit par les deux derniers conflits mondiaux.

Avec «Unser Erbe» j’évoque ces guerres successives, leurs atrocités et leurs cicatrices, mais aussi la réconciliation franco/allemande, qui est à la base de la fondation européenne et de notre Union actuelle.

Mais au-delà, cela m’a amené à mesurer la capacité de l’homme à pardonner les crimes les plus abjects, et à construire la paix.

Cette sculpture est symbolique jusque dans la matière dont elle est faite, puisque sa base est constituée d’un authentique éclat d’obus provenant du champ de bataille du « Chemin des dames », dans le département de l’Aisne, où une des plus violentes batailles de la 1ère guerre mondiale eut lieu en 1917, et au cours de laquelle mes deux grands-pères, Hans et Henri, âgés de 18 et 19 ans, ont combattu, chacun du côté opposé.

Quant au choix de la photo, entre celles de la rencontre à Reims,  entre les présidents De Gaulle et Adenauer en 1962, et celle de François Mitterrand et Helmut Kohl à Verdun en 1994 c’est la dernière qui a le plus parlé à mon cœur.

Mitterrand à dit à son sujet : « Instinctivement, je me suis tourné vers lui, je lui ai tendu la main. Sa main est venue en même temps »

Comme évoqué plus haut, la pièce principale est un authentique morceau d’un obus éclaté, comme il s’en trouve encore aujourd’hui par milliers sur le champ de bataille. Le tissu rayé symbolise l’horreur des camps de concentration et porte à la fois l’étoile jaune et le triangle rouge des prisonniers politiques français. Le fil de fer barbelé représente l’oppression de tous les peules d’Europe et les débris les destructions et les souffrances des populations civiles.

Mit „Unser Erbe“ erwähne ich diese aufeinanderfolgenden Kriege, ihre Gräueltaten und ihre Narben, aber auch die deutsch-französische Versöhnung, die die Grundlage der europäischen Gründung und unserer gegenwärtigen Union bildet.


Aber darüber hinaus führte es mich dazu, die Fähigkeit des Menschen zu messen, die schlimmsten Verbrechen zu vergeben und Frieden aufzubauen.


Diese Skulptur ist schon durch das Material, aus dem sie gefertigt ist, symbolisch, denn ihre Basis besteht aus einem authentischen Granatsplitter vom Schlachtfeld „Chemin des Dames“ im Département Aisne, wo Im Jahr 1917 eine der heftigsten Schlachten des Ersten Weltkrieges stattfand, in dem meine beiden Großväter Hans und Henri, 18 und 19 Jahre alt, jeweils auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite kämpften.


Was die Wahl des Fotos angeht, zwischen denen des Treffens in Reims zwischen den Präsidenten De Gaulle und Adenauer im Jahr 1962 und dem von François Mitterrand und Helmut Kohl in Verdun im Jahr 1994, ist es das letzte, das mir am meisten zu Herzen ging.


Mitterrand sagte über ihn: „Instinktiv drehte ich mich zu ihm um und streckte meine Hand aus. Seine Hand kam gleichzeitig“

Wie oben erwähnt, handelt es sich bei dem Hauptstück um einen authentischen Splitter einer explodierten Granate, wie sie auch heute noch zu Tausenden auf dem Schlachtfeld zu finden sind. Der gestreifte Stoff symbolisiert den Schrecken der Konzentrationslager und trägt sowohl den gelben Stern als auch das rote Dreieck französischer politischer Gefangener. Der Stacheldraht steht für die Unterdrückung aller Völker Europas und die Trümmer für die Zerstörung und das Leid der Zivilbevölkerung.

I am French/German, and my two families have been marked in their flesh and spirit by the last two world conflicts.


With “Unser Erbe” I evoke these successive wars, their atrocities and their scars, but also the Franco/German reconciliation, which is at the basis of the European founding and our current Union.
But beyond that, it led me to measure man’s capacity to forgive the most abject crimes, and to build peace.

The striped fabric symbolizes the horror of the concentration camps and bears both the yellow star and the red triangle of French political prisoners. The barbed wire represents the oppression of all the peoples of Europe and the debris represents the destruction and suffering of civilian populations.

Du 7 octobre au 22 novembre 2022, j’ai l’opportunité de pouvoir présenter un certain nombre d’œuvres lors d’une exposition sur mon lieu de travail, la Cour de justice de l’union européenne à Luxembourg. Cette photomanipulation est le fruit d’une collaboration déjà ancienne avec la talentueuse photographe et modèle Taya Iv (500px.com/tayaiv), qui m’avait autorisée à utiliser quelques uns de ses autoportraits*, pour y apporter ma touche personnelle, elle-même largement inspirée par mon maître, Gustav Klimt.

Ici, j’ai utilisé le logiciel Photoshop pour apporter couche par couche, de nouveaux éléments, couleurs et graphismes, qui s’imbriquent les uns dans les autres pour former l’image finale. Dans cette image, qui a nécessité environ 60 heures de travail, une soixantaine de calques se superposent. En faisant un « clic droit » sur l’image puis en choisissant « ouvrir dans un nouvel onglet », vous pourrez afficher l’image en pleine résolution. cela vous permettra d’en découvrir tous les détails.

« Taya’s best things » in details

This photomanipulation is the result of an already long-standing collaboration with the talented photographer and model Taya Iv (500px.com/tayaiv), who authorized me to use some of her self-portraits*, to add my personal, largely inspired by my master Gustav Klimt, touch,.

Here, I used the Photoshop software to bring layer by layer, new elements, colors and graphics, which fit together to form the final image. In this image, which required about 60 hours of work, about sixty layers are superimposed. By « right clicking » on the image and then choosing « open in a new tab », you will be able to display the image in full resolution. This will allow you to discover all the details.

Aujourd’hui, il y a 103 ans, prenait fin la 1ère guerre mondiale.
au cours de cette guerre, environ 2300 hommes, essentiellement français, allemands, britanniques et russes, furent fusillés par leurs propres frères d’armes, « pour l’exemple », souvent après un procès sommaire et pour n’avoir pas su faire face aux horreurs dont leur quotidien était fait. Cette peinture leur rend hommage…

Cette œuvre n’est pas à vendre.

J’ai grandi à la campagne et j’ai toujours admiré les agriculteurs qui contribuent à nous nourrir par leur dur travail.
Dans cette nouvelle série de peintures sur la vie à la campagne, j’ai choisi de leur rendre hommage avec une première peinture.

Comme d’habitude dans mes peintures, il y a un travail particulier sur les textures, dans ce cas avec l’usage de peinture épaissie au médium de texture travaillée au peigne, sur la partie labourée du champ.

I grew up in the countryside and have always admired the farmers who help feed us through their hard work.
In this new series of paintings on country life, I have chosen to pay homage to them with a first painting.

As usuallly in my paintings, there is a particular work on textures, in this case on the plowed part of the field, which is worked in relief, with paint thickened in structural medium, applied with a comb.

Ca fait un moment que je n’avais plus publié quelque chose, alors voici quelque chose de spécial: une « photomanipulation ».

Concrètement, c’est une photo existante, plus ou moins retouchée, et à laquelle j’ajoute des éléments, le plus souvent décoratifs, issus d’autres photos, ou peintes de manière numérique, avec un logiciel de retouche photo. Dans mon cas il s’agit de Photoshop. J’utilise aussi bien mes propres photos, que celles d’autres photographes, ce qui est le cas pour « Elle », cette photographie étant l’œuvre du photographe américain Craig Morey (https:/morey-art.com). Bien entendu, quand j’utilise les images d’autres artistes, cela se fait avec leur accord préalable.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, so here’s something special: a « photomanipulation ».

It’s an existing photo, more or less retouched, and to which I add elements, most often decorative, taken from other pictures, or painted digitally, with a photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop). I use both my own pictures and those of other photographers, which is the case for « Elle », this photograph being the work of American photographer Craig Morey (https:/morey-art.com). Of course, when I use the images of other artists, it is done with their prior agreement.
